Although the numbers attending the “Memories of Flight” Art Show, held at the Wigram Hotel, Christchurch, a little over a week ago now, were less than we had all hoped for, it was none-the-less an enjoyable event. The finger-food and wine served throughout the day was delicious and enjoyed by everyone I spoke to. Those who attended were generous in their appreciation of the work by all the artists.
I was able to beautifully display my work on a series of panels, boxed at either end. This has inspired me to seek an exhibition space in a darkened room with my work, in comparison, fully lit. The exhibition was held in the room that I understand, was once used as the officer’s mess back when this building was part of the air force barracks. This room has some great windows, which, as the day lengthened, allowed the sun to peer over the top of the displays, and in the case of my work, created some wonderful sparkling effects as the light moved across the paintings. I received the People’s Choice Award and fellow artist, friend and collaborator on my book, Frankie Bakker, received the Platinum Award.

I have been spending much of the past few months writing more than painting. Have the best part of a manuscript for a book of erotic poetry, being illustrated by the fabulous Frankie Bakker. Check out her work – here. I’m at the editing stage, which is exciting. But now I am flat out painting, getting organized for the Christchurch Memories of Flight Art Show being held by Black Horse Media, Wigram Hotel, August 13th, 14th, 15th. Really looking forward to this new exciting venue. Hope to see many of you there.
Memories of Flight Exhibition Frankie Bakker Artist My latest exhibition UNDER THE DREAMTIME SKY has opened and runs from March 20 - April 17 at Village Art Studio, Little River, Banks Peninsula. Will also have a book of art and poetry available for purchase, as part of the exhibition. I hope lots of people will support the very fine Village Art Gallery during the exhibition and throughout the year.
https://www.villageartstudio.com A selection of my works will be at exhibition from January 10th until February 7th 2021 at the wonderful Art on Tyne Gallery, here in Oamaru. Original paintings and some limited edition prints will be available to purchase.

“Meet the Maker” held here in Oamaru, yesterday, thanks to the organisation and hard work of the wonderful Jane from Moa Bakery. I was delighted that the two paintings shown here were bought by one buyer. A number of local artists accepted the offer to take part in this day of home/studio/garden visits and I was lucky enough to have the support and fun of sharing my venue with the beautiful and talented Debrina Price-Ewen - check out her work on Instagram. Thank you to all the warm, wonderful people who did the art tour. The networking and generosity of spirit and pocket was truly inspiring.
Thanks to visiting son Rawhiti for hanging Na Hinemoana and some of the larger works. He also bought screen and new shelving and set everything up...while as often as I could I kept creating Sh'boom! Harbour Street studio is starting to feel amazing! My idea of a break!
This recently completed work PLAYTIME recieved Highly Commended at the 2020 Colin Wheeler Art Competition.
So much fun setting myself up at the Harbour Street Studio! This is a working artists' studio and gallery; still working out retail options. You'll find me here most days of the week - usually later in the afternoon.
Visitors can wander up any time via the Collective Cafe downstairs (open 7 days a week). You are welcome to come and check out the art, make purchase enquiries or just come and say hello. Some of the work by various contributing artists as exhibited in the recently held Extinction Exhibition, Harbour Street, Oamaru.
